Baseline Road

The Boy's Crash

The boy's crash happened in the morning as he was riding his bike to school. He had pressed the button on the RRFB closest to the train tracks on Baseline Road and crossed to get to school. He was then hit by a woman who left the scene after she claimed she had heard something but turned back to find nothing. The boy was taken to hospital for a while.

The Girl's Crash

The girl who was hit in the afternoon when coming home from school had just gotten off of a local bus service. She then crossed the RRFB crosswalk closest to the intersection down the road, Baseline Road, to 95th Street. She was then hit by a driver who remained at the scene. While charges were not released, the girl was rushed to the hospital and remained there overnight.

Field Observation

People speed through the Baseline Road area regardless of the RRFBs. I conducted field observations on various parts of a road to find out how fast people go. I noted 200 cars and found that 58% of people speed through that area (116/200). According to the Colorado Legal Defense Group, 1-4 mph over the speed limit is a $30 fine plus a $6 surcharge (31.5% from the study), 5-9 mph a $70 fine, a $10 surcharge, and 1 DMV point (21% from the study), and 10-19 mph, a $135 fine, $16 surcharges, and 4 DMV points(5.5% from study). Although, it is substantial the lowest percentage lies between 1-4 mph, over half of drivers still race through the area without being fined.

Control: Baseline Up the Road

Although the percentage sped was only 6% higher than the RRFB area of Baseline, the green area being higher than the other 5-9 are above. Overall, the heavy signage and type of signage has made its impact on Baseline Road.
